Description

Job Summary: Responsible for coordinating and tracking patient referrals, diagnostic testing, specialty appointments, and other services ordered by the medical providers. This position serves as the primary liaison between patients, providers, insurance companies, specialist offices, hospitals, diagnostic facilities, and other healthcare organizations to ensure referrals are processed accurately and timely. The Referral Specialist is responsible for managing the referral process from receipt of the provider's order through scheduling, authorization, completion, and receipt of applicable reports or records. This position requires excellent organization, attention to detail, communication skills, follow-through, and the ability to manage multiple referrals and deadlines simultaneously.The Referral Specialist works closely with providers, nurses, clinical staff, front desk staff, billing staff, and outside healthcare organizations to ensure continuity of patient care.

Requirements:

• Basic understanding of health insurance, referrals, and prior authorization processes.

• Ability to use electronic health records and standard computer applications.

• Strong organizational and time-management skills.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle protected health information appropriately.

• Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a healthcare team.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.
